Welcome to the National Federation of the Blind of Utah
Your source for information about the Utah affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind. We’re changing what it means to be blind in Utah!
Vision Statement
Our VISION is to create a world where people who are blind share opportunities to lead satisfying and independent lives, equal to those who are not blind. We commit ourselves to improving the lives of blind people in Illinois by living the VALUES of:
- Security
- Equality
- Opportunity
- Assuring comparable choices to pursue our dreams
Our MISSION as a grass roots “people’s movement” is to work together to advocate for ourselves and to encourage each other to achieve self-determined independence.
The National Federation of the Blind of Utah demonstrates its commitment through statewide activities, advocating for children and adults of all ages. This includes developing and nurturing strong and informed relationships with both public and private schools and agencies responsible for providing services to the blind; seeking legislative solutions through cooperative ventures with our state representatives; and seeking private funding to support scholarships, work-study grants and internships for promising students. The NFBU Board of Directors also sponsors many low- income members in attending seminars, conventions and legislative events in order to provide mentoring and for them to learn more about possibilities for their futures. In many instances, attendance at such an event is the first time a newly blinded person has met other blind people with rich and interesting stories of success to share.
The National Federation of the Blind of Utah carries out its work through collaboration and resource sharing with its strong National organization, through meetings and activities of its local chapters and through the education and mentorship activities of its more than 300 members scattered throughout the state. While the organization affirms its grass roots emphasis by reserving its leadership for people who are blind, all people who support our values and aspire to our vision are welcome to join our movement. |
| GEORGE S. & DOLORES DORÉ ECCLES FOUNDATION |
For more than two decades, the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation has partnered with visionaries throughout the state of Utah to improve the lives of all its citizens.
Since its founding in 1982, the Foundation has made more than $300 million in grants ranging from modest assistance of $1,000 or less to multimillion- dollar investments in universities and health-care organizations. The Foundation addresses needs large and small alike -- always seeking to make a personal difference in the daily lives of Utahns, and to ensure a strong economic base for their future.
Throughout this website are stories highlighting some of the Foundation's project partners and the people who benefit from their dedicated efforts. Each story represents the broad spectrum of organizations to which the Foundation has directed grants over the past ten years -- focused on areas including arts and culture, the community, education, health care, and preservation and conservation.
A common thread of need and opportunity has enabled the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation to help others make a meaningful difference in the lives of Utahns. Each goal realized owes its success to many people. Together ... weaving dreams into triumphs. |

| Universal Athletic |
In 1971 Universal Athletic Service was formed by Dick Harte and Larry Aasheim with their focus on servicing the High Schools and Colleges in Montana. This adventure was inspired by an assignment to the Broadus High School business class that Dick was teaching at the time. Thirty-seven years later the adventure continues to unfold as Universal Athletic Service now operates as a nationally recognized team/retail athletic specialty dealer with 12 retail stores and team sales in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota and Arizona. Headquartered in Bozeman, MT, UAS takes great pride and sincere pleasure to passionately serve the schools and leagues from Border to Border.
A lot has happened since 1971. We've seen school sports eliminated and added. We've observed and participated in the incredible growth of youth and women's sports. We've seen the advent and impact of technology on sports equipment.
Through it all, one thing will never change, our pledge to stay true to Dick Harte's original philosophy. It is the mission of Universal Athletic Service as
